These are 10 Surprising Places To See This Summer In Newfoundland. Newfoundland and Labrador is a places of wonders and surprises. There are so many unique places to see in this province that you’ll never be bored. With over 400,000 square kilometres of land mass, there’s something for everyone. Here are some of my favourite places to visit on the island:
Ferryland Lighthouse Picnics
Ferryland Lighthouse is a great place to visit, especially if you like history and the outdoors. It’s also a beautiful spot for a picnic, and there are several good places to park your car or truck. In addition, there are excellent views of the harbour and nearby restaurants and shops if you want to grab food before or after your trip.
Salmonier Nature Park
Salmonier Nature Park is a park in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, that rehabilitates injured animals and educates visitors about animals in the parks and environment. It is located on Salmonier Line, Holyrood, NL. The park offers boardwalk trails, which will take about 20 to 30 minutes to complete based on your walking speed. Salmonier Nature Park is the perfect place to bring your kids in the summer and for families to enjoy nature.
Mistaken Point Ecological Reserve
Mistaken Point is a Heritage Site, one of the unique geological formations in Newfoundland and Labrador. This Point should be at the top of your list if you’re looking for an adventure this summer. Located on the Avalon Peninsula, the ecological reserve is home to fossils dating back millions of years. It’s also known as one of Newfoundland and Labrador best places to see fossils. The trail around Mistaken Point Ecological Reserve will take you through various landscapes and has its own unique feel, so explore.
Bell Island Community Museum
The Bell Island Community Museum is the place to go if you want to learn more about Bell Island’s history, including its mining heritage. The museum exhibits everything from how the mines were built to how they were operated and what life was like for the miners.
Some pieces of equipment are on display, and tours will take you on foot deep within the mine. The museum also has a collection of artifacts from above-ground equipment and below-ground tools, as well as photographs depicting various stages of the mine operation over time.

The Newfoundland Insectarium is a must-see for anyone who loves bugs, butterflies and other insects. This insectarium is located in the western region at 2 Bonne Bay Rd, Reidville, NL. The insectarium offers a fantastic collection of insects from around the world. The exhibits include butterflies, beetles, and some unique species like tarantulas and scorpions. It costs $15.00 for one adult (they have different prices based on age).
Gros Morne National Park
Gros Morne National Park is a Heritage Site and one of the largest parks in Newfoundland and Labrador. It’s home to various landscapes, including ponds, fjords and forests. The park also has many rare species of plants and animals that you can see while hiking one of its many trails or camping at one of its campsites. You can explore Gros Morne by walking one of its many trails or driving along Route 430, which runs through parts of the park.
Boat tours also take visitors around various aspects of this park to view mountain ranges, fjords and forests. The park includes several hiking trails, including The Green Garden Trail and the Tableland Trail. Both are moderate to easy hikes that take over an hour to complete. If you’re looking for something more challenging, consider hiking up to the summit or one of Gros Morne’s many backcountry trails.
Torngat Mountains National Park
Torngat Mountains National Park is in Nain Labrador. The park protects acres of land and several threatened species, including the caribou, bear and other animals. The Torngat Mountains National Park is the largest in Newfoundland and Labrador. The park includes several hiking trails leading visitors through forests and the coast. This park has several different ecosystems, including tundra, meadows and coastal shores.
L’Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site
L’Anse aux Meadows is the only known place in North America where Vikings settled. This National Historic Site is located on the northern tip of Newfoundland. The park is open year-round. However, the best time to visit is in the summer.
Try something new this summer and visit some of these lesser-known places. We highly recommend visiting some of these places if you are a tourist. They’re less well-known than other tourist destinations, but they have their charm and can be quite beautiful.
