The trail maintains a high elevation for much of its length. You are treated to a "bird's-eye" perspective of the Atlantic that few other trails can match.

Whale and Iceberg Viewpoints

Numerous lookout areas are perfectly positioned for spotting humpback whales (in summer) and icebergs (in spring).

I only had two hours before sunset and this trail was exactly what I needed. Minimal effort for massive rewards. The views of Middle Cove from the cliffs are easily some of the best on the entire East Coast Trail.

We used this guide and found the best cliffside vantage points. We saw three humpbacks breaching just offshore. The trail is easy to follow, and the meadows are beautiful.

Amanda. R

The new bridge at North Pond Brook made the crossing a breeze, and ending the hike with a picnic at Middle Cove Beach was the highlight of our weekend.

Mark. L

A wonderful little trail that connects two of the nicest communities on the Avalon. It’s well-maintained and mostly flat through the meadows. Just be careful near the cliff edges if it’s a windy day.

Derek. K

It’s a peaceful, quiet trail compared to some of the busier sections near town.

Most people just stay on the beach, but taking the Silver Mine Head Path gives you a bird's-eye view of the whole cove. This guide made finding the trailhead in Torbay so much easier parking can be a mystery without it.
