Trail Descriptions

Tablelands Trail Walk Beside the Earth’s Mantle

The Tablelands Trail follows the valley floor alongside the exposed peridotite rock of the Earth’s mantle a UNESCO World Heritage Site feature. The rust-coloured, barren appearance contrasts dramatically with the green boreal forest metres away. Interpretive panels explain the extraordinary geology. Easy to moderate, 4 km return, 1.5 to 2 hours. Trailhead on Route 431 between Trout River and Woody Point.

Green Gardens Trail Coastal Crown Jewel

An 11.2-kilometre hike through cliffs, meadows, and rocky shores, with breathtaking views of sea stacks and ocean vistas. The trail leads to the secluded Green Gardens beach. Along the way seabirds, whales, and other wildlife can be spotted. Moderate to rugged terrain suitable for hikers with experience and waterproof footwear.

Gros Morne Mountain Trail The Summit Challenge

The trail spans 16 kilometres and requires a whole day to complete. It wanders through boreal forest before a steep ascent to the summit plateau at 806 metres the second-highest peak in Newfoundland and Labrador. The panoramic view from the summit is truly inspiring. Not for the faint of heart. Open typically late June to late October. Start by 7-8am for a safe return before dark.

🦟
Insect Repellent Essential

Black flies are present in Gros Morne especially in late spring and early summer. Bring insect repellent and protective clothing for trail hiking in June. July and August are typically less affected.
